To Whom It May Concern,
It’s my pleasure to recommend Luna Reyna
Luna and I started at DOPE Magazine only a couple weeks apart from one another and worked side by side for almost two years. During this time as her editor I came to admire her passion, determination, and important input. Her knowledge of current events, social justice issues, and engaging, story-worthy figures was always impressive. I strongly believe our editorial content was elevated in a dramatic way with Shontelle’s curatorial eye, and will be noticeably changed following her absence.
I commended her ability to stand up for her beliefs and journalistic integrity, and her longform pieces on issues such as pipeline protesters, prison reform, and immigration brought a much-needed call to action on our platforms. If a controversial subject (say, someone with a history of racism, sexism, transphobia) was pitched as a potential feature, she was always the first to question the choice and examine why exactly we would give such a person a platform. She brought an important clarity to our discussions, armed with research and ample evidence of the figure’s history, and never compromised her integrity. Our content was subsequently elevated and more inclusive due to her extensive efforts.
I can confidently recommend Luna. Her unique voice and keen eye for storytelling will undoubtedly be beneficial to your organization.
Please feel free to contact me at conleykatherine@gmail.com should you like to discuss Luna’s qualifications and experience further. I’d be happy to expand on my recommendation.
Best,
Katie Conley
